My name is Elbie van Eeden, I’m a freelance hair and make-up artist based in London. Originally from South Africa, I moved to the UK in 2006. I first trained as a hairstylist, and I always knew that my true passion was to try to create a bit of magic, doing hair and make-up for photoshoots, fashion shows, and weddings.
This blog is an extension of what I do, with a little bit of randomness thrown in the mix!
I’ve been privileged to have worked with incredibly talented people, including Kirsty Mitchell, creator of Wonderland. We’ve been working on Wonderland since 2009, and it is in its final stages now. I’ve been doing the hair and make-up for the series, and have also spent hours on Kirsty’s carpets making props.. It’s been very well received, and has been featured on BBC News, MSN, Huffington Post, and numerous magazines and blogs worldwide.
I’m also involved in the alternative wedding world, with the help of Kat from Rock ‘n Roll Bride. Brides who book me are usually looking for that something different, whether it’s a pop of colour on the eyes, an undone updo, a dramatic lipcolour, or hair tied in a bow. Although I do like a bit of drama, I still like to keep the skin looking fresh and natural.
I love colour (can you tell?), I love researching things, and always end up watching movies with the IMDB app open, reading the behind-the-scenes stories, and Wikipedia is my friend. I love chunky jewellery made from unusual things, I love Catatonia, Leonard Cohen, Fleetwood Mac and I used to love Alanis Morissette when she was angry.
